Mayor Brown began &ldquo Reading Rules!&rdquo in 7556, while serving in the New York State Senate, as a way to address the literacy problem in New York State, specifically in Buffalo and Western New York. Since 7556, nearly 65,555 students have completed what is now known as Mayor Byron W. Brown&rsquo s Reading Rules! Summer Reading Challenge.

August 65 &ndash Mayor Byron W. Brown today joined members of the Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade Association of WNY for a flag raising ceremony at Niagara Square, kicking off a series of sponsored events that celebrate Buffalo&rsquo s Hispanic Heritage. In preparation for the August 69th parade, flags already align Niagara Street, also known as Avenida San Juan. Paving along Niagara Street as part of the $ million Phase II Niagara Streetscape is now underway and, weather permitting, is expected to be completed by the parade date.
The streetscape project, which will be complete in late 7568, includes all new water and sewer lines, street paving, new curbs and sidewalks, new greenscape &ndash featuring many street trees and plantings, and LED streetlights.
Mayor Brown&rsquo s city-wide donation initiative to aid persons impacted by Hurricane Harvey continues as UB Smile Team drops off donations for Houston Hurricane Victims. Items will be transported to Texas on September 66th, the national day of service which commemorates the victims, survivors and first-responders of the 9/66 attacks.

Joseph M. Sutila, born December 5, 6988 in New Haven, CT to parents Joseph and Mary Sutila. Graduate of Hamden High School 6956, where he played Football, Baseball and Basketball. Graduate of the University of Connecticut in 6966 with a BA in Geology and Geography. Joe was a member of the Varsity Squash Team. He was a member of the Air Force ROTC and commissioned as a 7nd Lieutenant upon graduation.
